Description

Set sail on an ocean of adventure as Cork surfs the high seas. After riding a sea horse, evading a shark and befriending an exhausted butterfly, Cork meets a wise old whale who shares the secret of staying afloat. Sparingly illustrated and awash with colourful rhyme, Cork on the Ocean is an uplifting tale of courage, friendship and the joy of positive thought.

Author description

Mark was born in Christchurch before moving to Auckland at the age of four. As a child he spent a lot of time making up stories and acting them out with his younger sister. While he loved to write, he wasn't that interested in reading, until at the age of thirteen he was given a copy of Watership Down and was completely swept away by it. Mark attended Westlake Boys High School then Waikato University where he sang in a band. After graduating with a degree in Management (and a headache), he spent 18 months wandering around the UK and Europe. Upon returning to New Zealand Mark spent much of the next five years composing songs and contemplating life's big questions through journal writing. At 30 he wrote his first short story in over twenty years and was reminded of what it was he loved doing the most. Today Mark lives on Waiheke Island with his wife and illustrative partner Rowan and his son Linden. Together they publish their own picture books. Mark loves stories that can be interpreted on a number of levels and relishes the challenge of creating books that can be enjoyed by young and old alike.
