Albert the Cat

Author(s): William Taylor

Picture books

A small cat of many colours lived at the local rubbish dump. This was a designer cat, made up of the bits and pieces that may have been left over from the making of other ordinary cats – a patchwork cat with a magnificent tail with an extra fluffy bit on the end. It was a sad life at the rubbish dump without a mother and father or any friends. Bigger dump cats hissed and spat and fought you for every scrap of food. Whenever the small cat found a nice fish-head, squawking, screaming seagulls would swoop down and claw it away. Sometimes they would even try to eat the small cat! Even the dump rats were thieves and seemed to laugh as they stole food almost from the cat’s mouth. The small cat learned to survive by taking chances and a few risks – and maybe dreaming of a better life . . .
