Tim Tipene (Nga Puhi) is the author of Taming the Taniwha which was selected for the White Ravens International Youth Library Catalogue as one of the world's top 250 children's books for 2002. Huhana Smith (Ngati Tukorehe, Ngati Raukawa) has exhibited nationally and interntionally and her paintings are in private and public collections. Issues surrounding protection of the environment are commonly found in her recent works.
