DescriptionRoger was a great rally car – winning his fair share of races and loving the feeling or roaring around a race course. Then an unfortunate accident seems to put an end to his rallying days. Author descriptionDick lives with his wife, Anne, in Thames where their main passion is cruising their 10-metre yacht around the Coromandel. Another of their interests is helping to time the crews in Classic car rallies which is where the idea for Roger the Rally Car came from. "New Zealand is lucky," Dick explains, "because once a year Dunlop sponsors the Targa Rally for classic cars. Usually up to 200 entrants start the week-long rally which is staged on the back roads of the North Island. "Usually only about 120 manage to finish. The rest run off the road and crash into ditches and farm fences. The cars are great to watch - they make interesting sounds and they smell of burnt clutches, hot brake linings and high octane fuel. As the rally progresses the cars seem to develop real personalities of their own!" This is Dick's second book for Reed - the first being Olly and Black build a Boat. |
