My mate Dec has this theory. He reckons girls can sense desperation...
"It's like football," he says. "If you haven't scored for a while, your game's off and you can't concentrate properly. The important thing's to scrape together a resullt against anyone, even if it's a third-division side, and get your confidence back for the cup tie. Honestly.
"Basically, Dylan, if you ever want to have a chance with someone you fancy, it might be an idea just to try getting off with someone you don't."

Dylan's not sure where this thinking will lead him but he figures he has to try something. That's sort of where they get the idea about Dec having a party. Party = girls = result, surely? And it would have been fine if it hadn't been for the experiment with the fireworks...
